CJSLogo_500

Here we go again.

After last year's success of Creative JumpStart Nathalie Kalbach decided to organize it again. (About 4,500 subscribers joined the Creative JumpStart in 2012. It was so much fun and so inspiring!)

So here's the scoop about it:

January is approaching--a month that is full with promises, resolutions and intentions. A month that for many is following lots of holiday celebrations, family gatherings and other end-of-the-year events. It’s also time to start creating again. But, suddenly, there it is for some of us: that lost feeling on how to start. Here is the cure!   :)

Nathalie invited a group of wonderful, inspiring, and creative ladies and gentlemen from around the globe in the mixed media and scrapbooking world to join together for the Creative Jump Start Summit 2013. We are coming together to show you some ways to get back into the creative groove and how to get your creative juices flowing. We want to share with you "3 Ways to ..." help you jump-start your creativity in 2013.

WOOHOO!!!

Here’s what you get and how it works:

Christmas Joy Card!

It's the holiday season and I have a "Christmas Joy" tag card just for YOU!

Card sharon

First I started with a tag. Tags are so fun to make, but I run out of ideas of what to do with them...so I added it to a card base!

Then I grabbed a few of my favorite things: doilies, punches, a date stamp, Ranger tissue tape, twine, and LOADS of Prima!

You know I save all my scraps. Do any of you do that? Well, I picked out all of the ones that fit this color scheme and used them here and there on the tag.
Card sharon2

Remember the "Got Flowers" jars filled to the brim with gorgeous blooms? I found a bottle, pulled some out, and added crystal centers to them. I also punched stars out of the bottom of the tag to let the red-striped Prima paper peek out.

Card sharon3

A velvet trinket and a touch of twine add the perfect finishing touches.

Card sharon4

Top off your tag with a white bow and adhere it to a card base (I just used coordinating paper for the base.)

Next send your amazing card to your FAVORITE person in the whole wide world! They will love you forever!

Merry Christmas to each of you! ~Sharon

Quick Tip Video: Ornament 3!

Today I have the last quick video tip for making ornaments!

Tow3.jpg

This week we will look at creative ways to use doilies, Comfort Craft Chalk Inks & Prima packaging to create this wonderfully inexpensive Christmas Ornament that can be customized to match your home.

As a bonus my daughter used the tips in all 3 videos to create her own ornament! (I think hers is super cute!)

Tow orn britt

Brittany created a washi tape hanger, sandwiched a doily (colored with chalk ink) and lace in between her papers, AND added a punched photo (instead of patterned paper) to make a one-of-a-kind ornament!

Tow orn britt2
The flip side announces her engagement date and shows off a few special embellishments!

So-jump right in and click play on the video below. I would love to have you create along with me.

Oh, Yes! Video Tip #2

Can you believe it. I'm posting again and it hasn't even been a week!

Today I have another quick video tip for you!

Tow2.jpg

I love washi tape and was trying to come up with a fab new way to use it. So-I doubled it over on itself and used it to make a hanger. Sweetness. Add a bit to another punched circle to tie it all together and you are good to go.

And canvas resist shapes are one of my favorite products (tan "lovely" word!) On this project I used Prima's Fluid Chalk Inks by Ingvild Bolme and a bit of water! Just click play on the video below to see how easy it is.

One last tip: color these fab resins with a bit of chalk ink too.

Make sure you catch all three of the ornaments videos!
Video one is here.
Video three will be shown next Thursday!

Go Green Christmas Mini-Album!

Each November I gather a few of my saved Prima packaging pieces and create a Christmas mini-album. What a GREAT, and inexpensive, way to put together an album very quickly. Then, after I print out my Christmas photos I can just stick them in since the album is ready to go. (Tip: This would also make a fabulous gift for a teacher, neighbor or friend!)

2012 ledger

This year I pulled some of the packaging from Ingvild Bolmes' Shabby Chic resins. The blue and white palette is perfect for a wintery look. You will only need about 3 sheets of patterned paper to cover 3 or 4 packaging pieces on both sides-and Prima's ledger pads are a great deal offering a wonderful mix of coordinating patterns. Tip: Do not worry about tears on the packaging. You will cover those up with paper or flowers!

2012 christmasbook

Directions:

1. After adding paper to the packaging I looked through my stash for a few elements to decorate with. I love to make scrapbooking simple so I use similar elements through-out the book to keep a cohesive look. Tip: Try to stick to 3-4 colors (turquoise, red, white and black) that coordinate with your papers.
2012 page2

2. Next I chose 2-3 packages of flowers in different sizes/colors, some leaves, doilies, ribbon, red Velvet Trinkets, alphas, and whatever little left-overs I had around. Tip: I keep a jar of left-over tidbits right on my scrap table so they are always in sight. I find myself using them a lot when I can SEE them! (Buttons, extra flowers, pieces of ribbons, etc.)
2012 page1
3. I also like to create pockets on minis! What a great place to tuck Christmas memorabilia...or some extra photos! Punch some tags to tuck in for journaling space.
Tablet photo
4. A great way to include a lot of photos on one page is to make your own little book. Staple several sheets of paper together at the top. Then add a binder and glue to the mini-album page. So simply, but so creative.
2012 back
2012 page3
5. I love to use doilies when I scrap. Cut them apart to get more mileage out of them. Tip: You can cut down the middle, or, as I did on multiple pages here, cut just 1/3 off for a visually pleasing balance. 2012 page4

6. Add titles or words that carry the holiday spirit through-out the book! Tip: I used the Paris alphas which offer a dark red and light blue. Working wtih two colors opens up your options for placement.

2012 christmasbook

7. Make as many pages as you wish and then loop them all on a large ring. Make sure to decorate the ring for that little extra touch. Tip: Punch a small hole in some leaves to thread on your ring.
8. Wrap up for a gorgeous one-of-a-kind gift for that special someone!

Product List:
  • Ledger Papers: 843755
  • Paris Alphas: 559137
  • Prima Trim: 550455
  • Precious Metals Leaves: 547394
  • Paris Velvet Trinkets: 559977

  • Soubrette White Flowers: 561574

Masculine Mixed-Media Canvas

Today I have a mixed-media canvas showing off my just-graduated son, Billy, and Prima's new masks, metal trinkets, wood embellies, and more!

Sharon canvas billy

I started off by painting my canvas...then spraying colored mists and Perfect Pearl Sprays over a Donna Downey mask. I love the look of Perfect Pearl Spray on tn canvas....it has such a gorgeous sheen to it!

After drying I stamped random clock images and added gold, red, and white paint touches.

Tip: make sure you add stamps and paint to the canvas sides for a finished look.

Next adhere your photo on a piece of cardboard and tear edges for a distressed effect.

Sharon canvas billycu1

Embellishing with Prima's newest metal trinkets by Ingvild Bolme is perfect for a masculine touch. I love the look of the zipper pulls on this project. They add depth, dimension, and just a solid look for a guy project.

Glue gears and zipper pulls sweeping across the canvas...then add some flowers, wood pieces, and twine touches for a fabulous project.

Sharon canvas billycu2

So grab pictures of your guys and make a special canvas just for them! Prima has everything you will need to make it a showstopper!

That Zephyr Line is GORGEOUS!

Oh, yes, it is!!!

I wasn't sure if I would like the bright colors,

but they make my heart happy...

...especially when you get to scrap this little sweet pea!

I asked Amariah (my granddaughter) to pick up her toys.

She did not want to listen to me.

So she gave me that pouty look.

Of course I cracked up...which made her crack up.

And now she thinks I am wrapped ALL the way around her pinky. :)

The silly girl!

(I think she's right though.)

What is your biggest source of inspiration?  My biggest source of inspiration is other artists.  I go to art openings, museums, galleries, Pinterest, and blogs whenever I can!  I love to see what other artists are creating and they inspire me to try new things! My students are also a huge inspiration!  They discover new ways of doing things that I might not thought of.  It's awesome to see other people making artwork that I taught them how to do but put their own twist on it!

If you could pick a dream location to teach this year what would it be?
If I could teach anywhere, I'd love to go to Europe or Australia!  A beach location would be amazing too!

What is your biggest source of inspiration? My biggest source of inspiration is other artists (scrapper gal pals) that share the same passion! I get excited chatting about all the beautiful products, sharing fun new techniques and thoughts about what we can create! And then... my favorite scrappy magical moment happens! Feeling that creative sensation hit me - I just know how all those colors, beautiful papers, awe-mazing gorgeous flowers, ribbons, embellishments will all come together !! It makes my fingers get jumpy!! ta-hee! Yes, sharing our scrappers passion with each other - it's a Magical Prima Moment! {sounds a bit corny but true for me.. awww I LOVE IT!}
If you could pick a dream location to teach this year what would it be? If I could pick a dream location to teach this year it would be located at a fun craft store with a gorgeous view of the crashing waves on a beach somewhere.. anywhere.. and the store filled with happy scrappers, lots of laughter, amazing scrapping supplies, snacks, and plenty of TIME! :)

If you could pick a dream location to teach in this year what would it be? I would love to teach in the snow. Anywhere that it’s warm and cosy inside with snow falling outside. We could scrap for a couple of hours, then take a break to drink mulled wine and build snowmen. Then scrap some more. Divine.
Do I have a favourite colour? No. I don’t. I never have, even as a child. I love all colours. I get inspired by them. I drool over the pinks/reds/oranges and yellows found in sunrises and sunsets. The purple in a cloudy day. The blue and greens found in ever changing oceans. Seems I have a thing for nature too?! LOL. But where better do you find the most beautiful colours in the world?

What music do you love to scrap to?
I listen to the radio until lunchtime, when I change to my iPod music.  On my iPod is Black Eye Peas, Cold Chisel, The Cult, Alanis Morrisette, Bruce Springsteen, lots of old stuff that I can sing along mindlessly (and badly) to! In the evenings I turn the radio back on.  I guess I like to listen to DJ chatter sometimes, but when it’s time to get really creative, the iPod goes on!
Do you have a favourite colour?
Teal – hands down.  Love it.   It sneaks into most of my pages in some form.  Teal and red, teal and yellow, teal and orange, teal and teal.

What is your favorite snack while scrapbooking?  I love to have a hot drink, Chai Latte, Coffee, Hot Chocolate. The flavour is less important than the feeling of a warm cup in my hands.
If you could pick a dream location to teach this year what would it be? Somewhere in Scandanavia, as I would dearly love to see the scenery and there are so many wonderful scrapbooking ladies in this area that I would love to meet.

Where is your dream place to teach? ANY place where I can stay just a little while afterwards to visit with the store owners, students and sightsee! I would love to teach in the Czech Republic (to see my grandparent's culture), or Africa or Ireland; or go back to Israel, Italy, or a million other places!
What is your biggest source of inspiration? New photos and new product really inspire me to start creating. I also love how almost everything around me can inspire in some way; from pinterest to online stores, to restaurant menus to billboards.
